Ulsan City has been selected as a "drone demonstration city" and will start to demonstrate its drone service.
The demonstration was specialized in personal air vehicle (PAV), autonomous flight, air quarantine, and special delivery.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 23rd that it has selected 10 drone demonstration cities that implement new drone services in urban areas and 13 drone-regulated sandboxes that support commercialization of excellent technologies.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been conducting a public contest for demonstration cities of drones since 2019 and a public contest for regulatory sandboxes since 2018 to support the use of new drone technologies in urban areas and demonstration of excellent technologies. This year, 10 drone demonstration cities were selected, including Ulsan City, Yeongwol County, Gangwon Province, Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, Gyeongnam Province, Gwangju City, Suseong-gu, Daegu City, Daejeon City, Sejong City, Jinan County, Jeollabuk-do Province, and Seosan City, Chungnam City.
Each local government selected for demonstration cities of drones will receive a budget of around 1 billion won, demonstrating customized projects according to the characteristics of each city.
In particular, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport explained that the drone service required by each local government can be freely demonstrated without regulations such as flight approval and safety certification when selecting demonstrated cities.
Ulsan Metropolitan Government's businesses include Ulju County, Ulsan Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), USIS, Rainbow Research Institute, A-Tech, Human Drone Development, MP, and Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency.
The demonstration sites are part of District 2 (city center) and part of UNIST of the drone special liberalization zone. The contents of the project are △ (digital twin and autonomous flight) 3D map construction in the city center △ AI-based optimal path calculation △ optimal path autonomous flight demonstration △ automatic control system △ automatic control △ AI-based re-wire monitoring. In addition, the project will include △ emergency transport scenario design △ medical delivery demonstration △ AI-based landing site object recognition △ delivery arrival notification △ gas performance verification and flight performance verification.
The expected effects are △ Establishment of data for flight safety △ Demonstration of stable operation of drone control stations (GCS) and land information map △ Discovery of aviation quarantine consumers △ Establishment of a system for re-fest prevention in forest areas △ commercialization of drone delivery.
Yoon Jin-hwan, an aviation policy director at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "We will help drone companies grow through various policy support such as demonstration support projects such as drone demonstration cities, regulatory innovation, research and development, and overseas expansion."
