LG Uplus' drone-based AI (Artificial Intelligence) fire detection service "U+Smart Drone" was verified 99.9% of the fire detection rate by the International Institute for Disaster Prevention and Prevention Test on the 2nd. This is the first time a drone has been recognized as a device to detect fire.

U+Smart Drone is a service that allows long-distance remote control and real-time video transmission by installing mobile communication and remote control functions on a gas. Because it supports 5G and LTE communication, there is no limit to distance control unlike regular drones. Since videos that are filmed are also stored on servers, not on their own storage, it is possible to watch multiple videos in real time on PCs and mobile devices. LG Uplus has developed U+ Smart Drone by collaborating with South Korean drone company called 'USIS'. 

"AI Fire Detection" is a mission-type drone service that adds AI image analysis engine and thermal imaging camera. It first detects flames and smoke with AI in the air and measures actual temperature with real-time temperature scanning technology of thermal imaging cameras to determine whether it is a hot topic. Compared to existing services that relied solely on image detection, the false detection rate has decreased significantly, showing a high fire detection rate of more than 99.9%.

For example, if the pixel (digital image unit) in the area where the drone is detected is judged to be a color that is more than 100°C different from the surrounding area, the relevant field analysis will be conducted. Afterwards, if this is determined to be a sunset, sunrise, car lights, and wind-shaking red cloth, it is judged not to be a fire and thus increases the detection rate. When a fire is detected, the U+ smart drone quickly notifies the user of the fire and can detect the fire in the range of 24,000 square meters, which is more than three times the size of the soccer field, in about three minutes.

"Just as drones have been used in various fields such as securing security, performing military operations, and preventing marine accidents, we will continue to improve them as services that customers can use in fire prevention areas," said Jeon Young-seo, head of LG Uplus corporate service development. LG Uplus is planning to expand its markets in earnest based on this official approval.
